GTM. Interface customization

Contents Jump to a section

In Google Tag Manager, tables may use only part of the available space, while a wrapped date in the last-modified column can make a row taller. The GTM. Interface customization module expands supported tables to the available width of the workspace and makes the date column easier to read.

The changes are applied automatically in the browser where PPC Tools Extension is installed. The module changes how the GTM interface is displayed. Your tags, triggers, and variables remain unchanged, and you do not need to publish a new container version.

Who the module is for

  • Analytics and PPC specialists who regularly work with lists in Google Tag Manager.
  • Users whose containers have many tags, long names, or several triggers assigned to a single tag.
  • Anyone working on a wide screen who wants tables to use the available space.

The setting makes lists easier to browse while preserving your usual GTM workflow.

What changes in the interface

Tables use the available width

The module removes the width limit from supported tables and their containers. For example, the tag list can use more of the available space in the GTM workspace.

The result depends on the window size and the table’s contents. This is not a full-screen mode: GTM navigation stays in place, and the table uses the space within its section.

Tables inside folders expand too

The change also applies to supported tables in the “Folders” section. As you move between sections or workspaces, the module processes newly displayed tables again.

You do not need to run a separate command or open a module panel each time.

Dates stay on one line

In tables with a recognized last-modified column, the module widens that column and prevents dates from wrapping. The heading remains fully visible, and values such as “8 months ago” or “a few seconds ago” stay on one line.

Long names and trigger lists keep their normal wrapping behavior. If a tag has several triggers, its row may still be taller than neighboring rows. The module does not force every row to have the same height.

ElementWhat the module does
Supported GTM tableUses the available width of the workspace
Table inside a folderExpands along with its supported parent containers
Last-modified columnGets more space; the heading and dates do not wrap
Long names and trigger listsCan still use multiple lines

Getting started

  1. Install PPC Tools Extension and open the extension settings.
  2. Make sure “GTM. Interface customization” is enabled.
  3. Click the gear icon on the module card and check “Stretch GTM tables to full width”. This setting is enabled by default.
  4. Open Google Tag Manager, then select your container and workspace. Go to a supported table, such as the tag list or the “Folders” section.
  5. If the GTM tab was open before you installed or enabled the extension, reload it. Once the table appears, the layout changes are applied automatically.

This module does not have a separate action window inside GTM. You control it from its card in the PPC Tools Extension settings.

Module setting

“Stretch GTM tables to full width” controls all the changes described above: expanding tables and their supported containers, and adjusting the last-modified column.

When enabled, the module watches for tables appearing or updating. The layout changes are also applied as you navigate within GTM and content updates without a full page reload.

The module card is available in English and Russian and follows the extension’s language. For date columns, the module recognizes “Last Edited”, “Last Modified”, and the Russian heading “Последнее изменение”.

Restoring the original layout

Open the PPC Tools Extension settings and turn off “Stretch GTM tables to full width”. The module restores the original values of the styles it changed in the open tab. You do not need to reload the page when toggling this setting.

Turn the setting back on to apply the layout changes again. You can also disable the entire module on its card.

Restoring the layout does not require undoing any changes in your GTM container: the module does not edit its contents.

Things to keep in mind

The changes only apply in a browser where the extension and module are enabled. They do not change the interface for colleagues who do not have the module installed or enabled, and they are not passed on to visitors to your website.

The module works with supported tables at tagmanager.google.com. If the current section has no supported table, you may see no change. It does not expand arbitrary forms or GTM item editors.

Adjusting the date column requires a recognized heading. If the interface uses a different label, table expansion and date formatting may behave differently. The module also depends on the current Google Tag Manager interface structure.

There is less free space in a narrow window. Long names and multiple triggers may still wrap after the table expands, keeping the contents readable.

FAQ

Where do I open the module panel in Google Tag Manager?

There is no separate panel inside GTM. The module applies the layout changes automatically. Enable it and control “Stretch GTM tables to full width” from the module card in the PPC Tools Extension settings.

Why can’t I see any changes?

Make sure both the module and its setting are enabled, then reload the GTM tab. Open a supported table, such as the tag list or a table in “Folders”. The module may make no changes on pages without a supported table. If the issue continues, the current GTM layout may differ from the one supported by the module.

Do I need to publish the container after enabling it?

No. The module changes the interface display in your browser without editing tags, triggers, or variables. You do not need to publish the container to apply the layout changes.

Why are rows with several triggers still tall?

The module prevents wrapping in a recognized last-modified column. Long names and trigger lists can still use multiple lines, so rows are not forced to have the same height.

Can I quickly turn off the layout changes?

Yes. Turn off “Stretch GTM tables to full width” in the module settings. The original values of the modified styles will be restored. Turning the setting on again reapplies the layout changes.
