GAds. Google Search ad highlighting

Contents Jump to a section

The GAds. Google Search ad highlighting module adds a blue outline to ads in Google search results. Ads matching your saved domain list also get a translucent fill and a “Your ad” badge, making them easier to spot.

Highlighting is applied automatically when the module is enabled and supported ad blocks are present. You can manage the domain list and appearance separately.

What changes in search results

Search ads

Recognized ad blocks get a blue outline and a compact “Ad” badge. If the module finds a domain from your saved list in an ad, it adds a blue fill and changes the badge to “Your ad”.

This label is based on your domain list. You choose which websites to mark this way.

Product ads

The module also highlights supported Google Shopping cards. The outline is placed over the card, preserving its size. For ad formats that group products by store, one outline surrounds the store card and the products inside it.

Matching domains get the additional fill and a “Your ad” badge.

Your domains

Click the eye button near the Google search bar to open “Domain highlight settings”. Enter a website address, such as example.com, in “Add domains”, then click “Add”. You can enter several domains separated by commas.

Saved domains appear as separate items in the panel. Remove an unwanted entry using the button next to it, or use “Clear” to empty the entire list. Changes are reflected in the highlighting immediately.

The module standardizes addresses by removing https://, http://, www., and the page path. For example, https://www.example.com/catalog is saved as example.com. Added domains are stored in the extension settings.

Adding a domain directly from an ad

Hover over a supported ad to reveal “Add domain”. Clicking it saves the detected domain to the same list managed by the eye panel and updates the ad’s appearance.

For a saved domain, a red “Remove domain” button with a trash icon is available. It removes the entry from the list. Ads that no longer match your list return to regular highlighting.

If the module cannot identify the domain, the add button does not appear. The list only affects how ads are highlighted in your search results.

Module settings

Open the PPC Tools Extension settings and click the gear icon on the module card. All three settings are enabled by default.

SettingWhat it changes
“Search ad highlighting”Enables outlines for search ad blocks
“Product gallery highlighting”Enables highlighting for supported Google Shopping product ads
“Badge on ad outline”Shows the “Ad” and “Your ad” labels

You can turn off badges while keeping the outlines and fill. Highlighting stays blue in both light and dark themes; the eye button and domain panel follow the extension’s overall theme.

Things to keep in mind

The module works in search results on www.google.com, www.google.kz, www.google.ru, and www.google.by. It styles recognized ad blocks. Some ad layouts may not be highlighted if Google changes their structure.

Manage domains through the eye panel, and turn individual highlighting features on or off from the module card in the extension settings. To remove all highlighting, disable “GAds. Google Search ad highlighting”.
